Bringing subscriptions from another app (OPML)

Export your subscriptions from your previous podcast app as an OPML file, usually found in its settings under “Export” or “OPML”. Save the file in the Files app, tap “Import OPML” in Podium’s library and choose it. Podium then loads all feeds; new episodes of these podcasts go to the inbox.

With “Export OPML” you can take your subscriptions from Podium with you the same way.

Adding a podcast by feed address

Not every podcast is in the directory, private supporter feeds for example. Copy the feed address and tap “Add by URL” in the library; Podium picks up a copied link by itself. Alternatively, paste the address into the search.

Inbox, queue or list only

On a podcast’s page, choose what happens to new episodes: “Inbox” for sorting, “Queue” for podcasts you always listen to, or “List only” if you prefer to pick yourself. New subscriptions start with the inbox.

Downloads and storage

Podium downloads queued episodes automatically, but only on Wi-Fi: on cellular, a Personal Hotspot or in Low Data Mode, the download waits. If you tap “Download” on an episode yourself, Podium may use cellular as well.

A file stays on the iPhone as long as the episode is in the queue; Podium deletes it again 24 hours at the earliest after you finished or last played it. Remove single downloads with “Remove Download”.

New episodes and notifications

Podium checks for new episodes when you open the app and, when iOS allows it, in the background. iOS decides when that happens. If new episodes arrive late, check under Settings → Apps → Podium that “Background App Refresh” is on; in Low Power Mode or if you close the app in the App Switcher, iOS refreshes less often.

Use the bell on a podcast’s page to be notified about new episodes. These notifications come from the background refresh.

Sleep timer

In the player, set the sleep timer to 5 to 60 minutes or to “End of episode”. At the end, Podium fades out the sound. If you resume within 15 minutes, the same timer starts again and Podium announces “Sleep timer activated”.

AirPods and headphones

Press your headphones once to pause and resume. A double press skips 30 seconds forward in the episode, a triple press 15 seconds back; several skips in quick succession get larger. After a call, Podium resumes by itself.
